Sentiment runs to extremes
The index starts on February 1, 2018, so the 2013 and 2017 cycles have no reading. Its lowest score was 5 in August 2019 and its highest 95 in February 2021. Extreme fear came at the 2018 and 2022 lows, but also lasted for weeks while price kept falling, so it describes the mood rather than timing the turn.

Fair questions, straight answers
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index published by alternative.me, the most widely quoted crypto sentiment index. It runs daily since February 2018. The readings on this page come from alternative.me's public API.
alternative.me combines volatility, market momentum and volume, social media activity, Bitcoin dominance and Google search trends into one 0–100 score. 0–25 is extreme fear, 26–46 fear, 47–54 neutral, 55–75 greed and 76–100 extreme greed.
It read 11 at the December 2018 low and 21 at the November 2022 low. At the April 2021, November 2021 and 2025 tops it read 74, 75 and 71. Its lowest reading was 5 in August 2019 and its highest 95 in February 2021.
It's a sentiment reading, not a signal. Extreme fear has come near several lows, but it can last for weeks while price keeps falling.
